what we Believe.

In Jesus, our beliefs find anchor, guiding our journey with His light, shaping our hearts with His love, and uniting us in a tapestry of grace.

THE DECLARATION OF FAITH OF THE CHURCH IS AS FOLLOWS:

  • The Scriptures (or Bible) consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the infallible Word of God. They were written by holy men of God inspired by the Holy Spirit and have supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. 2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

  • There is one God who is eternal, personal Spirit. He is Triune in essential being and revealed to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:26; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1, 2; Acts 5:3, 4; Colossians 1:9.

  • It is from the Fatherhood of God that all human families find their origin. All the goodness of human fatherhood and motherhood finds its source in God’s Fatherhood. The Father shows His love for us in that he created us in his own image, chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world and redeemed us through the death of Christ. He constantly draws us to himself and will bring us to glory. Genesis 1:27; Isaiah 42:14, 15; 66:13: Hosea 11:1-4; John 3:16; Romans 8: 31-38; Ephesians 1:3-15; Ephesians 3:15; 1 John 1:5-9; 4:7-10.

  • Jesus Christ is the second person of the Godhead. He is eternally one with God the Father of whose person and glory He is the accurate expression. In Him, the nature of God and the nature of man were united in one person; truly God and truly man. Seated at the right hand of the Father, He reigns now as King. Hebrews 1:3; John 4:7-42; 1 Corinthians 15:20-25.

  • The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He is eternally one with the Father and the Son; yet He is sent by them to achieve the divine purpose in the world and the church. John 14:15-17; John 14:25-26.

  • God created the heavens and the earth and everything in it. Humanity is a special creation of God. Scripture tells us that God created all things and that God created human beings in His image. All things exist as a gift of God and are not able to create themselves. Each human is accountable to God our creator for the way we use all that God has given us. Genesis 1; Genesis 1:26; Psalm 8; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Hebrews 4:13.

  • Man fell from fellowship with God by transgression of God’s command and his nature was corrupted. Apart from God’s grace, man is helpless and hopeless. Romans 3:23; 5:12.

  • Satan, a fallen angel, leads the kingdom of darkness in opposition to the kingdom of God. Satan and his evil spirits oppress mankind and attack the church of God. Matthew 4:1-11; John 8:44; Acts 10:48; Ephesians 6:10-12; 1Peter 5:8; Revelation 12:9.

  • In order to redeem mankind from the guilt, penalty and power of sin, Jesus Christ became man and died a sacrificial death on the cross as our substitute. He rose again from the dead triumphant over sin, Satan and death. The sinner is reconciled to God, not through any personal merit, but solely on the basis of God’s gracious gift of salvation received through faith. 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:8-9.

  • The Holy Spirit convinces sinners of their sinfulness and leads them to personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. In the life of the believer, the Holy Spirit makes real the presence of Christ, leads into all truth, bestows gifts for Christian service and gives power for holy living. John 16:8; John Chapters 14,15, 16; Romans 8:1-17; 1 Corinthians 12-14.

  • The church is the body of people whom God has separated from the world through faith in Jesus Christ. All regenerate persons are members of the universal church. However, this church takes local forms wherever groups of believers unite for worship, fellowship and service in accordance with scriptural principals. All believers are called to serve the Lord Jesus. However, God calls some individuals to particular ministries such as pastors, missionaries, deacons and other leaders. Ephesians 3:10; Acts 14:23; Romans 16:5; Ephesians 4:11; 1 Timothy 3:8

  • Christian Baptism is commanded by our Lord. It is expressed by immersion in water into the name of the Triune God of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:18-20; Romans 6:3-4.

  • The ordinance of the Lord’s Supper was instituted by our Lord as an obligation for believers, the observance of which is the privilege of all who have professed repentance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ whose atoning death is declared in the ordinance until He shall come again. 1 Corinthians 11:23-32.

  • At the end, according to His promise, Jesus Christ will return to the earth personally and visibly. The full coming of the Kingdom of God will be ushered in when Jesus comes again. Acts 1:9-11; John 14:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:23-25.

  • In connection with the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus, there will be a resurrection both of the righteous and the unrighteous. After death our bodies return to dust, our spirits, however, live on – either to be with Christ or to await the final judgment. John 5:28,29; Philippians 1:23.

  • God appointed a day of final judgement for the world. Those judged righteous will receive their reward and will dwell forever in heaven with the Lord. The unrighteousness will go to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. Acts17:31; Revelation 20:11-15.

  • Every believer is called to live a life that honours the Lord Jesus. We are challenged to be witnesses for our Saviour: in the family, in caring for the needy irrespective of colour, class or creed, in serving God through our time, ability and money. John 19:27; James 1:27; Romans 12:1-8.

  • We believe that Christians receive the Holy Spirit as a deposit upon receiving Jesus however having available to them a continuing in-filing of the Holy Spirit and He should be continually sought for refreshing, filling and drawing one to closer intimacy with God. Ephesians 5:18. We believe in a Godly, Holy Spirit filled calling for all Christians to fulfil the declaration in Matthew 10:8 to: ‘Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”

  • We believe that God has ordained the sexual act between a man and a woman, in the state of Holy Matrimony, to be the only pattern for sexual relationships endorsed, blessed and approved by God to the exclusion of all others. We believe that homosexuality and specific acts of homosexuality are contrary to God’s order and not to be entered into by believers. Romans 1; 1 Corinthians 6:9. We believe that sexual activity outside of marriage is contrary to God’s plan. It is God’s Will for us to abstain from all sexual practices outside of marriage. For this reason, we uphold the biblical view that monogamous, heterosexual relationships are God’s exclusive ideal for marriage and for raising of a family. 1 Thessalonians 4: 1-8.

  • We believe God’s created differences between male and female reflect His original creation design and are meant for human good and human flourishing and these biological differences are binary and assigned by God within the womb. Genesis 1: 26-28, Genesis 2: 15-25; Matthew 19:4-6. We believe that while physical anomalies and psychological conditions can exist, they do not nullify the God appointed link between biological sex and identification as male or female, nor do they exclude such a person from being treated with dignity and welcomed into God’s family. Matthew 19:4-6, Ephesians 5: 28-29, 1 Timothy 2:15 c.f. Genesis 1:27-28, Genesis 2: 24-25, Genesis 3: 20, Genesis 5: 1-5.

  • We believe that the path to Christian maturity lies in recognising that our true identity is in our Lord Jesus Christ. That true freedom is freedom from self created or socially constructed identities and our true identity can only be found in being a new creation transformed and renewed in Christ Jesus.1 Corinthians 1:30.

  • We believe God made all people and loves all people. Genesis 1:2; Deuteronomy 10:18; John 3:16. We believe that God’s pattern for human flourishing is good for all people as all people are created in His image whether they put their trust in Jesus Christ or not. Matthew 5:43-45; Luke 6:35-36.

  • We believe that encouraging people to embrace God’s pattern for human wholeness and sharing with them the good news of Jesus Christ is the good and loving thing to do, encouraging them in the knowledge that in Jesus Christ all things will be made new. Revelations 21:5.
